Job Description

We are seeking detail-oriented and analytical Network Field Support Specialists to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing new Canadian Forces network infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure connectivity across all systems and locations. You will work efficiently to troubleshoot network issues, implement security protocols, and support the growing IT environment with a focus on organization and precision.

Successful candidates will be required to travel domestically an average of one week per quarter, and internationally a minimum of 8 consecutive weeks per year.

Tasks include, but are not limited to:
• Configure and maintain network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN systems.
• Monitor network performance and analyze traffic patterns to identify and resolve connectivity issues proactively.
• Troubleshoot network problems systematically and document solutions for future reference.
• Manage network monitoring tools and ticketing systems to track and resolve issues efficiently.
• Perform regular network maintenance, updates, and patches while minimizing downtime.
• Support end-users with network connectivity and access issues through help desk ticketing systems.
• Collaborate with IT team members to plan and execute network upgrades and infrastructure improvements.
• Implement security policies and industry standards across all network systems.
• Able to operate effectively in both conventional office/laboratory settings as well as austere field environments, supporting Army IT networks and infrastructure in Canada and on forward deployments in Latvia, including systems deployed within armoured vehicles and mobile platforms.
• Be willing to work non-traditional hours, sometimes outside in diverse weather conditions.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:
• Minimum 1 year of Canadian military service (Reg Force or Reserves) and/or 1 year of professional experience in direct support of the Canadian Armed Forces.
• 3+ years of professional experience in network administration or IT infrastructure management.
• Successful completion of a 2-year post-secondary certificate or diploma in a related field of study, or equivalent training.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, network architecture, and networking fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with firewall configuration, management, and security implementation.
• Proficiency with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
• Demonstrated expertise in VPN and remote access technologies.
• Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery systems and best practices.
• Familiarity with IT service management (ITSM) principles and ticketing systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
• Able to travel domestically an average of one week per quarter, and internationally for a minimum of 8 consecutive weeks per year.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Experience with virtualization technologies and enterprise-level network environments.
• CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent network certification.
• Knowledge of network automation and scripting technologies.

Security Clearance Requirements:
• Must be a Canadian citizen who is able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Secret Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment
