Alice Springs is the regional hub of Central Australia with an urban population of approximately 30,000 people.
Nestled within the MacDonnell Ranges, spectacular gorges and waterholes, accessible by road, walking trails and bicycle tracks, surround the town. It is multicultural with well-established schools and amenities. There are many galleries, al fresco cafes, restaurants and bars, and all manner of sport and fitness clubs. Out of town are places to camp under the stars, swim through gorges, explore rocky mountain ranges and hit world-class mountain bike trails.
Alice Springs Hospital is a 183 bed teaching hospital with strong links to Tennant Creek Hospital, Royal Darwin Hospital, Royal Adelaide Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre with many visiting specialists from these hospitals.
Around 75% of patients are Indigenous - many from remote communities. The catchment area is over a million square kilometres with a strong focus on Indigenous and remote health.
The Department of Medicine staff consists of a mix of General Physicians and other Specialists, many with dual training. We have local cardiology, endocrinology, rheumatology, respiratory, infectious diseases, palliative care, oncology, ******* and other drugs, a large renal unit, gastroenterology and many regular visiting specialists. There is on site general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics, gynaecology, psychiatry, paediatrics, day procedures unit and an 11 bed ICU. There are four General Medical teams, a busy Outpatient Department and we provide outreach clinics to some of the most remote parts of Australia.
We are seeking motivated doctors for Basic Physician Trainee Registrar positions for 2026 intake. Registrar positions may be suitable for doctors in their 3rd post graduate year (PGY3+) and beyond. Trainees from other college pathways such as intensive care or ACCRM may also apply for basic physician training positions.
Come for a 3, 6, 12 or 24 month rotations.
We are also accredited for acute general medicine Advanced Training. ACCRM, GP, critical care trainees and other encouraged to apply. Minimum PGY3.
The generous estimated remuneration package for this position includes:

6 weeks recreation leave.
Superannuation
Leave Loading
Relocation and Repatriation Reimbursement
allowances based on the NTPS medical Officer EBA 2026-2026 and subject to contract duration
