Mechanical Design Engineer - LED Lighting Fixtures

Role Overview

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong hands-on experience in designing LED light fixtures and linear lighting systems . The role requires deep understanding of IP & IK rated designs , manufacturing processes, and vendor coordination to ensure scalable, cost-optimized, and production-friendly designs .Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop LED lighting fixtures , linear lights , and outdoor/industrial luminaires
• Create designs compliant with IP ratings (IP65/IP66/IP67) and IK impact ratings
• Convert product concepts into manufacturable mechanical designs
• Perform DFM/DFA to ensure designs are:
• Easy to manufacture
• Cost-optimized
• Free from production bottlenecks or capacity constraints
• Select materials (aluminium extrusions, plastics, gaskets, fasteners, lenses, diffusers, etc.)
• Work closely with vendors & suppliers for tooling, extrusion, injection molding, die-casting, surface treatments
• Prepare 2D drawings, 3D models, BOMs , and assembly instructions
• Coordinate with electronics, optics, quality, and manufacturing teams
• Support prototyping, testing, validation , and field feedback improvements
Required Skills & Expertise
• Strong experience in LED luminaire mechanical design
• In-depth knowledge of:
• IP sealing concepts (gaskets, potting, vents)
• IK impact protection
• Thermal considerations for LED fixtures
• Proficient in SolidWorks (mandatory)
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD
• Understanding of manufacturing processes:
• Aluminium extrusion
• Sheet metal
• Injection molding
• Die-casting
• CNC machining
• Vendor interaction & process optimization mindset
Qualifications
• B.E / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 4 years of relevant industry experience in lighting or similar product design
Good to Have
• Experience with outdoor / industrial / infrastructure lighting
• Exposure to mass production scaling
• Knowledge of lighting standards and real-world installation constraints
