A Mechanic Helper in a Garage assists experienced mechanics in carrying out maintenance and repair tasks on vehicles. The primary role is to support mechanics with physical labor, tool organization, vehicle preparation, and ensuring the garage runs smoothly and efficiently. This role is typically an entry-level position, offering opportunities for on-the-job training and development in the automotive field.Key Responsibilities Assist with Vehicle Repairs and Maintenance: Help experienced mechanics with vehicle inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, brake repairs, tire replacements, and battery installations. Disassemble and reassemble parts of vehicles under mechanic supervision. Assist with diagnosing basic mechanical issues with vehicles using tools like diagnostic machines, if applicable. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and inspecting belts. Prepare Tools and Equipment: Organize and maintain garage tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and readily available for mechanics. Assist in setting up the necessary tools and equipment before each repair session. Ensure all tools are cleaned, maintained, and properly stored after use. Assist with Vehicle Handling: Help bring vehicles into the garage for repairs, ensuring they are safely positioned in the work area. Assist in lifting and moving heavy vehicle parts and components. Support mechanics in the disassembly of parts and systems of the vehicle (e.g., removing wheels, brakes, and engines). Cleaning and Maintenance of the Garage: Keep the garage clean and organized by sweeping floors, removing trash, and ensuring workstations are tidy. Clean vehicles and parts during and after the repair process, ensuring no dirt or debris remains that could affect the repairs. Regularly clean and maintain tools and machines to ensure they remain in working order. Inventory and Stock Control: Help maintain inventory of parts and supplies used for vehicle repairs, ensuring items are stocked and reordered when necessary. Assist in receiving shipments of auto parts and ensure they are properly stored and tracked. Update records of parts used, repairs performed, and inventory changes. Customer Service Support (if applicable): Greet customers who drop off or pick up their vehicles for repair. Take down customer information and provide updates on repair progress when necessary. Communicate with customers about simple issues like waiting times or general repair information.
