Role Overview
Working as part of a motivated and collaborative team, this role is responsible for the safe and efficient mooring of vessels to support shipping operations and port activities and carrying out general maintenance duties as required.
This is a casual role, with hours varying based on operational demands of the port. The successful applicant will be adaptable and comfortable working irregular and unpredictable hours to meet customer needs and vessel schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Operate mooring equipment, including capstans and quick release hooks, to support the safe berthing of vessels;
Carry out minor maintenance of Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) assets, such as quick release hooks, walkway mesh, and mooring dolphins, as required;
Perform wharf preparation and general clean-up duties as needed; and
Assist with launch operations as directed, including the safe transfer of pilots to and from vessels, launch maintenance, and oil pollution response activities.
About you
Experience working both independently with limited supervision;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
Must be willing and able to work in diverse weather conditions and at varying times of the day and night including weekends and public holidays as required;
Experience carrying out minor maintenance activities and in the use of general plant and equipment;
Current Driver’s Licence;
Knowledge of WHS practices that apply to general labouring work; and
Must be able to obtain an MSIC (Maritime Security Identification Card), and Police Clearance.
Full training will be provided, however any previous experience working in manual handling or general labouring would be looking favourably on. This role includes physical duties such as lifting up to 20–25kg and requires good upper body strength and cardiovascular endurance.
