Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
This is a temporary position providing legal support to the Director of Data Risk and Policy within the ICT Services Directorate. The role involves reviewing technology-related contracts, Terms and Conditions of Service (ToS), and End User Licence Agreements (EULAs), summarise key findings in a structured format and assess risk against a structured set of criteria. Expected commitment is approximately 10 hours per week, with flexibility around scheduling. The role can be performed remotely but will involve liaising with members of the ICT Services team.
Nga haepapa matua | Key Responsibilities
Review a range of software and services contracts, including ToS and EULAs
Identify and interpret legal terms relevant to the use of technology products and services
Assess risk against a structured set of criteria
Summarise key elements of each agreement using a structured template provided
Maintain a register of assessments performed
Liaise with ICT Services team members to clarify requirements or confirm interpretations as needed

Strong understanding of New Zealand and international law as it relates to technology, intellectual property, and digital services
Excellent written English, with the ability to interpret and summarise complex legal documents
Suitable for a final-year or postgraduate law student
Ability to work independently and manage workload remotely
