Lead Core Elementary Teacher (Ages 9–10)
Spring 2026 Roots & Wings Village
Roots & Wings Village is seeking a Lead Core Elementary Teacher to support a consistent cohort of children ages 9–10 in our Spring 2026 program. This role is well suited for an experienced, emotionally attuned educator who values nature-based learning, relational teaching, and community-centered education.
Our days are rooted in storytelling, circle, hiking, free play, and creative expression, all held within a strong social-emotional and relational container.
Position Details
Session Dates: March 2 – June 22, 2026 (16 weeks; no class Memorial Day)
Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:15am–3:15pm
Compensation: $25/hour
Approximately 132 total hours
Total session pay: $3,600
Employment Type: 1099 Independent Contractor
Role Overview
The Lead Teacher supervises, guides, and mentors a small group of children with the intention of supporting their relationship to self, others, and the natural world. The teacher holds the daily rhythm of the program while responding flexibly to the emotional, social, and developmental needs of the group.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate daily programming including:
Morning circle, storytelling, snack, and discussion
Nature hikes, sit spots, journaling, and forest free play
Lunch transitions and outdoor play
Experiential, reflective art workshops
Support social-emotional development and healthy peer dynamics
Guide children through conflict using Roots & Wings frameworks (attunement, consent, repair, peace table)
Plan and document weekly lessons and parent communication
Maintain safety, supervision, and accurate headcounts during transitions and hikes
Participate in monthly teacher meetings and collaborate with Directors as needed
Maintain current CPR & First Aid certification (reimbursement provided)
Community Membership Participation
As part of our village-based model, Teachers actively support the Roots & Wings community ecosystem.
Participate in one community gathering per month, either:
Friday Village Commons (1–4pm), or
Sunday Sacred Community Gathering (3–6pm)
Offer a ~1 hour relational community offering, such as art, movement, mindfulness, or a nature-based experience
Support relational flow, orientation of families, free play, conflict navigation, and community clean-up

Feel overwhelmed by emotional expression, conflict, or fluid group dynamics
Expect children to consistently self-regulate without adult co-regulation
Are seeking a role with minimal collaboration or community involvement
Feel uncomfortable engaging in reflective feedback or examining personal triggers
Prefer clear separation between teaching work and broader community life
Qualifications
Experience working with elementary-aged children
Comfort facilitating outdoor programming in varied weather
Strong communication, organization, and reflective capacity
Alignment with Roots & Wings values of attunement, consent, and relationship-centered education
