Education Qualification: Any graduation or related field or higher with minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
Position Description: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Sybase SQL Server Database Administrator to join our IT infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning of Sybase databases across various environments. This role involves close collaboration with development, operations, and support teams to ensure database integrity, high availability, security, and optimal performance.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
Database Installation & Configuration
Install and configure Sybase SQL Server databases on Unix/Linux/Windows platforms according to industry best practices.
Manage version upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal disruption to operations.
Set up and configure high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) environments using Sybase Replication Server or other technologies.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
Monitor database performance using tools such as Sybase Central, dbcc, sp_monitor, and performance reports.
Analyze and optimize SQL queries, indexes, and database configuration parameters to improve performance.
Troubleshoot slow-running queries and database bottlenecks.
Database Design & Implementation
Collaborate with data architects and developers in the logical and physical design of databases.
Participate in data modeling sessions and schema review processes to ensure efficient database structure.
Implement and enforce data standards, including naming conventions and data integrity constraints.
Operational Support & Maintenance
Provide day-to-day support for database operations across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
Conduct regular health checks, backups, restores, reorgs, and consistency checks.
Manage user access, roles, permissions, and auditing to maintain security and compliance.
Incident & Alert Management
Proactively respond to system alerts, logs, and monitoring tools to address issues before they escalate.
Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for critical incidents and performance degradations.
Actively engage in incident and problem management calls, documenting root cause and preventive actions.
Development Support & Debugging
Work closely with developers to support application deployment and SQL debugging.
Assist in query tuning, stored procedure optimization, and error resolution.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain comprehensive documentation of database environments, configurations, procedures, and policies.
Generate regular reports on database performance, capacity, and incident trends for management review.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
Must-Have Skills:
hands-on experience with Sybase ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise) administration.
Strong command of SQL, performance tuning techniques, and database internals.
Proficiency in shell scripting or automation tools for routine database tasks.
Familiarity with database backup, restore, and recovery procedures.
Experience in supporting high-availability and disaster recovery configurations.
Good-to-Have Skills:
Exposure to other RDBMS platforms (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) is a plus.
Knowledge of ITIL processes for incident, change, and problem management.
Certification in Sybase technologies (e.g., SAP Certified Technology Associate) is desirable
