Job Description
As a Lab Technician, your role involves managing the Computer Science Laboratory to ensure smooth functioning, maintenance, and administration. You will be responsible for various tasks such as managing computer systems, networking equipment, software installations, troubleshooting technical issues, and supporting faculty and students during practical sessions. Your goal is to maintain the laboratory operational, secure, and compliant with institutional standards.
- **Key Responsibilities:**
- *Laboratory Management:*
- Maintain and monitor computer laboratories, servers, networking devices, and peripheral equipment.
- Ensure all systems are functional and ready for practical classes and examinations.
- Maintain laboratory inventory, asset records, and stock register.
- Coordinate procurement and replacement of hardware, software, and consumables.
- *Technical Support:*
- Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot operating systems, software applications, and development tools.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues.
- Provide technical assistance to faculty, students, and staff during laboratory sessions.
- Support online examinations, coding competitions, workshops, and departmental events.
- *Network & System Administration:*
- Monitor and maintain LAN, Wi-Fi connectivity, and internet services within laboratories.
- Ensure data backup, antivirus protection, and system security measures are implemented.
- Assist in managing servers, cloud platforms, and laboratory management software as required.
- *Documentation & Compliance:*
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, service reports, and equipment utilization.
- Prepare reports related to laboratory usage, repairs, and inventory audits.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies, cybersecurity guidelines, and accreditation requirements.
- *Safety & Housekeeping:*
- Ensure cleanliness and proper arrangement of the laboratory equipment.
- Follow safety procedures for electrical and electronic equipment.
- Report infrastructure and safety concerns to the appropriate authorities.
- **Qualifications:**
- Diploma/Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Applications, or a related field.
- Certifications such as A+, N+, CCNA, MCSA, Linux Administration, or equivalent will be preferred.
- **Experience:**
- 13 years of experience in computer laboratory management, IT support, or system administration.
- Experience in educational institutions will be an added advantage.
- **Required Skills:**
- Knowledge of computer hardware, networking, and operating systems.
- Proficiency in Windows, Linux, and common application software.
- Understanding of database management and programming environments.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity and data backup practices.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
