Position Summary
As a Laboratory Technician in the School of Chemistry at the University of Melbourne, you will play a crucial role in supporting practical classes and maintaining state-of-the-art laboratory equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and Support Practical Classes: Set up laboratories, prepare chemical solutions, and assist with practical sessions for undergraduate students.
Maintain Laboratory Equipment: Test, calibrate, and maintain scientific instruments and apparatus to ensure optimal performance.
Manage Laboratory Resources: Conduct inventories, assist with purchasing, and ensure proper storage and disposal of chemicals and materials.
Provide Technical Support: Assist students and staff with inquiries, contribute to safety procedures, and maintain accurate records and databases.
Requirements
Diploma or equivalent qualification in Science.
Experience in a teaching or research laboratory setting.
Passion for supporting scientific education and research.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
Experience with scientific instrumentation and laboratory techniques.
Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office and laboratory software.
