Role Overview:
We are seeking a Lab Technician Co-op student to join in our lab. The ideal candidate is a proactive and detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in laboratory work and scientific research. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in laboratory techniques, experimental procedures, and data analysis within the life sciences sector.
Main Duties
Prepare, collect, and analyze biological samples or materials, and accurately document all experimental procedures and results.
Complete experiments assigned independently, conduct data analysis and prepare reports on experiential results.
Maintain highly detailed records of the stages of development of tests and the final results thereof.
Deliver technical summaries of data with critical thinking skills to provide in-depth analytical explanations and interpretations.
Ensure all laboratory equipment is operated safely and maintained in good working order; assist with general laboratory upkeep.
Clean, sanitize, and disinfect workspaces and equipment according to safety and hygiene standards.
Perform library and online research.
Education
Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in life-science fields, such as molecular biology, cell biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, immunology.
Preferred Technical skills
Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques, including pipetting, solution preparation, and reagent handling
Understanding of aseptic techniques and sterile handling procedures
Experience with molecular biology methods such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, and DNA/RNA extraction
Exposure to cell culture techniques and microscopy (an asset)
Ability to accurately record, analyze, and interpret experimental data
Basic knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and good laboratory practices (GLP)
Preferred Soft Skills
Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment.
Willingness to put extra effort at work and collaborate with other employees to increase productivity.
Ability to work with animals and animal materials.
Multitasking and prioritizing skills are necessary.
Proficiency of Chinese (Mandarin) is a plus.
