Job Description

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus, Edmonton.

Position Summary

The Laboratory Coordinator supports the daily operations of the BME teaching labs, working under the direction of the course instructor. Responsibilities include preparing lab materials and equipment, ordering supplies with supervisor approval, and supporting students during lab sessions. The role also involves coordinating the Capstone project, managing required purchases, maintaining SOPs, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Teaching & Student Support - Provide instructional support to faculty and students by assisting with laboratory instruction, demonstrations, student training, and the administration of laboratory activities.
Lab Maintenance & Operations - Coordinate the day-to-day operations of teaching laboratories, including inventory management, maintaining cell culture stocks, calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring laboratory safety, and maintaining a clean and functional learning environment.
Capstone Project Coordination - Support the planning and coordination of graduate Capstone projects by facilitating laboratory resources, materials, and technical assistance.
Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) & Course Development - Develop and maintain laboratory procedures, documentation, and instructional resources while supporting the continuous improvement of laboratory courses.
Experiment Preparation & Troubleshooting - Prepare laboratory materials and equipment for teaching activities, assist with experimental design and analysis, and provide technical support by troubleshooting laboratory equipment and experimental procedures.
Education: Minimum Diploma in Science or a related field; a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Master of Science (MSc) degree is preferred.
Experience: At least one year of experience in a laboratory and research environment.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Cell Culture, including cell lines and adult stem cells.
Hands-on experience with Flow Cytometry, Proliferation Assays, and Stem Cell Assays (e.g., differentiation, CFU-F, gene delivery).
Time Management & Organizational Skills: Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively in a research setting.
Communication & Writing Skills: Strong spelling, grammar, editing, and proofreading abilities to ensure accuracy in research documentation and reporting.
