The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, artistically talented, and detail-driven Junior Fashion Designer to join our core creative team. In this role, you will work closely under the guidance of our Senior Designers and Creative Director to bring Dhiya Couture’s bridal and heritage collections to life.
You will assist in every stage of the design cycle—from research and mood board creation to CAD illustrations, embroidery artwork detailing, and supporting client fittings. This position is ideal for an ambitious designer with exceptional hand-sketching skills, a deep appreciation for traditional Indian textiles, and a strong desire to master luxury couture craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Design Assistance & Conceptualization
Research & Mood Boards: Conduct research into historical Rajputi garments, royal Indian textiles, and archival embroidery motifs to build seasonal theme boards and color stories.
Sketching & CADs: Create detailed freehand sketches, digital illustrations, and precise flat sketches (tech packs) using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Procreate.
Artwork & Embroidery Development
Motif Trace & Placement: Prepare full-scale hand-embroidery artwork for traditional techniques including Zardozi, Gota Patti, Aari, and Dabka.
Karigar Coordination: Assist senior designers in liaising with master artisans (karigars) in the workshop, overseeing swatch developments, and verifying motif placements on fabric.
Pattern & Fitting Support
Sample Tracking: Assist pattern masters and tailors during mock-ups, drapes, and initial sample production.
Client Fitting Notes: Maintain detailed fitting records, altered measurements, and specification sheets for custom bridal orders.
Studio & Inventory Management
Fabric & Trim Sourcing: Help source, categorize, and archive high-end fabrics, trims, embellishments, and embroidery swatches.
Collection Upkeep: Ensure all sample garments and collection pieces are cataloged and kept in pristine condition for shoots, client previews, and runway presentations.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Fashion Design from a premier fashion institute (NIFT, Pearl Academy, or equivalent).
Experience: 0 to 2 years of experience in Indian bridal wear, luxury couture, or high-end ethnic wear. (Fresh graduates with exceptional portfolios are strongly encouraged to apply).
Software Skills: Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) and digital illustration tools (Procreate, Canva).
Illustration Skills: Strong freehand sketching ability to clearly communicate garment proportions, drapes, and embroidery details.
Technical Knowledge: Basic to intermediate understanding of Indian textiles, hand-embroidery processes (Zardozi, Gota Patti, Aari), and garment construction.
Attributes: Passionate about heritage textiles, eager to learn, organized, and thriving in a fast-paced luxury atelier environment.
