Duties & Responsibilities
The Deputy Director, Operations functions as the lead of Capacity Management and Patient Throughput provides executive oversight of patient flow operations across Bellevue Hospital. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer, this leader is responsible for strategic planning, operational execution, and performance improvement to optimize patient throughput, resource utilization, and care coordination. The Deputy Director leads a cross-functional team and collaborates across departments to deliver high-quality, timely, and patient-centered care in alignment with the hospital’s mission and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Oversight
Directs departmental operations, staff development, and clinical programs supporting efficient patient throughput.
Partners with senior leadership to advance enterprise-wide patient flow initiatives and capacity solutions.
Oversees recruitment, evaluation, training, and performance management for departmental personnel.
Operational & Clinical Excellence
Documents and maps all current patient flow processes across the hospital to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
Leads efforts to automate and standardize throughput workflows across departments—ensuring all processes are clearly documented and sustainable.
Implements data-driven strategies to reduce delays, support timely discharges, and improve care transitions across service lines.
Drives continuous quality improvement and regulatory compliance to ensure safety and service excellence.
Strategic Planning & Policy Development
Develops and executes departmental strategic plans in alignment with hospital and system-wide priorities.
Leads the creation, revision, and enforcement of policies and procedures that support effective throughput, care transitions, and discharge planning.
Participates in hospital-wide strategic planning and contributes to institutional decision-making.
Financial & Resource Management
Oversees the department’s operating and capital budgets, ensuring fiscal accountability and resource optimization.
Aligns staffing and operational resources with throughput and access targets.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
Builds collaborative relationships with clinical, operational, and administrative stakeholders to support coordinated patient flow.
Represents the department in hospital and system-wide throughput and performance committees.
Cultivates a culture of accountability, transparency, and high performance.
Expectations & Standards
Champions Bellevue Hospital’s mission and ICARE values in all aspects of leadership.
Maintains a safe, inclusive, and high-performing work environment for patients and staff.
Ensures full compliance with HIPAA, regulatory standards, and internal policies.
