Job Type: Full Time, Temporary Non-Exempt Non-Bargaining Unit
Reports to: Floor Managers (various)
Location: 828 Broadway, Strand’s flagship location in Union Square
Schedule: 40 hours, 5 days per week, including both Saturday and Sunday. Seasonal staff at our flagship location will be working our closing shifts, which run from 12:15PM-9:15PM.
Temporary Employment: Please note that this position is for those looking for temporary employment. This position will not exceed, at most, 90 days of employment.
As a seasonal bookseller at Strand Bookstore’s flagship location in Union Square, you will play a crucial role in supporting our store during the summer months. You will maintain and organize our extensive inventory of books, assist customers with purchases and provide book-in-hand service, always doing your best to track down the right book for the right customer.
Those hired for this position will either work from late May-early August or early June to late-August, however these dates are flexible to some degree. This is an ideal position for those on their summer breaks from college.
Please note: Our seasonal booksellers will be trained to help support various areas of the store. However, we are always on the lookout for those interested in children’s books and books about the visual arts.

Essential Functions:
Maintain and organize inventory on shelves, ensuring that the stacks are neat, organized and alphabetical whenever possible.
Shelving in sections as delegated and depending on wherever the priorities might be.
Practice book-in-hand delivery to guarantee that customers receive the items they are looking for and make recommendations to customers as much as possible.
Complete recovery and other maintenance tasks across the floor as necessary, including but not limited to: tidying up tables of books and displays of merchandise, sweeping and cleaning behind information desks and registers, keeping workstations clean and tidy, taking out trash, bringing our clearance carts in and out of the building at the beginning and end of the day, etc.
Process POS (point of sale) transactions, completing them accurately and efficiently.
Assisting other departments with work as needed (i.e. helping in set up or break down of events, helping with inventory or web orders as directed, the pricing and receiving of used books).
