Join City of Moreton Bay as an Investigations Officer and help deliver fair, effective and community focused regulatory outcomes for our City.
As an Investigations Officer, you will manage a diverse range of regulatory matters involving dog attacks, regulated dog compliance, illegal waste dumping and significant alteration of public land offences.
You will undertake investigations, gather and assess evidence, interpret and apply legislation and determine appropriate regulatory responses. An important part of the role is engaging with the community, providing education and advice and encouraging voluntary compliance where appropriate.
Where enforcement is necessary, you will prepare high quality reports and briefs of evidence and represent Council before the Magistrates Court and QCAT as required.
About you
We are looking for a confident, practical and fair minded investigator who understands that good regulation is as much about people as it is about legislation.
You will be comfortable engaging with the community, explaining regulatory requirements in plain language and using education and communication to influence positive behaviour. Equally, you will recognise when education alone is not sufficient and have the confidence to take appropriate enforcement action.
You will bring strong investigative and evidence assessment skills, sound judgement and the ability to apply legislation to real world circumstances. You will be calm and professional in difficult situations, communicate clearly, take ownership of your investigations and see matters through to an appropriate outcome.
You will have:
experience in investigations, compliance, enforcement or a comparable regulatory environment;
strong investigative, analytical and evidence assessment skills;
the ability to interpret and practically apply legislation;
strong community engagement and communication skills;
an understanding of natural justice and procedural fairness;
strong written skills, including the preparation of investigation reports and legal documentation; and
effective time management and decision making skills.
You will hold a current C Class driver's licence.
If you are an experienced regulatory investigator, or a developing investigator with strong judgement, initiative and communication skills who wants to make a positive difference in the community, we would like to hear from you.
