Job Description

Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking an Instrumentation Mechanic to work out of our mill site near Athabasca, Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing the measuring and control devices used in all Al-Pac industrial and production processing. The technicians work with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer devices used to measure and control pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force, and chemical composition.

Role Responsibilities

Operate complex machines and systems, adjusting processes to optimize quality and productivity. Also responsible for generating solutions to complex inefficiencies.
Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation or electronic equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
Inspect instrumentation systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
Provide operational support by performing a range of route activities using existing systems and protocols.
Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards. Obtain authorization from a supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
Role Requirements

Alberta-certified Instrument journeyperson.
Alberta certified Electrical journeyperson would be an asset.
Holds a recognized related trade certificate.
5 – 7+ years’ experience in manufacturing/forestry maintenance and service or performing other instrumentation related duties including machinery and equipment installation, repair and maintenance.
Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) an asset.
Other

Working Knowledge of:

o Analyzers (Teledyne TRS, CO, SO2)

o Flow and Opacity (Teledyne Ultra flow 150 and Light-Hawk)

o Dilution systems (STI CEMS)

o Data loggers (Global Analyzer systems)

CEMS experience.
Ability to prioritize, manage time well, multitask and troubleshoot.
The ability to read and understand complex instructions.
Consult manufacturers' manuals to determine test and maintenance procedures.
Use pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices to inspect and test instrument and system operation and diagnose faults.
Practice loss management principles.
Consult with and advise process operators.
Repair, maintain and adjust system components or remove and replace defective parts.
Conduct risk assessments.
Calibrate and maintain components and instruments according to manufacturers' specifications.
Work with engineers on basic designs.
Install and maintain instruments on new or existing plant equipment and processes.
Interpret and use appropriate CSA, ISA and API installation standards and practices.
