Hockey Coach, Skating Instructor & Performance Trainer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and passionate Hockey Coach & Skating Instructor to join our athletic performance team. This role is responsible for delivering elite-level instruction to hockey players of all ages and skill levels—ranging from youth mites to competitive adult and AAA players.
The ideal candidate possesses deep technical knowledge of power skating mechanics, edge control, and hockey-specific skill development. You will leverage traditional coaching methods alongside cutting-edge training technology (including synthetic ice training zones and specialized hockey skating treadmills) to accelerate player development, correct mechanical inefficiencies, and build well-rounded athletes.
Core Responsibilities1. Player Instruction & Skill Development
Biomechanical Skating Analysis: Analyze and correct players' skating stride mechanics, focusing on extension, recovery, posture, and edge control.
On-Demand Technical Coaching: Deliver structured private, semi-private, and small-group training sessions targeting overspeed, agility, puck handling, and shooting.
Treadmill Instruction: Safely operate specialized hockey skating treadmills, implementing progressive training programs that push player endurance and stride efficiency while utilizing real-time video feedback.
Curriculum Implementation: Execute and adapt facility training curriculums to match the specific development goals, age, and skill level of individual athletes.
2. Athlete Assessment & Progress Tracking
Baseline Testing: Conduct initial player evaluations utilizing video analysis and performance metrics to identify mechanical weaknesses and structural imbalances.
Progress Reports: Maintain accurate logs of athlete metrics, providing constructive feedback and comprehensive progress reports to players and parents.
Goal Setting: Establish clear, measurable performance benchmarks for short-term and long-term athletic growth.
3. Facility & Client Management
Client Engagement: Build strong, trust-based relationships with athletes, parents, and local youth hockey associations to foster a positive, motivating community.
Safety & Maintenance: Ensure the training environment is safe and organized. Maintain equipment, inspect synthetic surfaces, and enforce strict safety protocols for all specialized machinery.
Scheduling Coordination: Assist in managing lesson availability, client check-ins, and facility workflow to optimize training zone utilization.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Hockey Background: Minimum of 3–5 years of competitive hockey playing experience (AAA, Junior, Collegiate, or Professional preferred) and/or structured hockey coaching experience.
Skating Expertise: Exceptional knowledge of power skating mechanics, stride efficiency, and technical edge-work.
Communication Skills: Ability to articulately break down complex physical movements into easily understood cues for youth and adult athletes alike.
Certifications: USA Hockey Coaching Certification (Level 2 or higher preferred) or equivalent skating instructor credentials. CPR/First Aid certification required (or willing to obtain upon hire).
Availability: Flexible schedule, including peak facility hours (afternoons, evenings, and weekends).
Preferred Attributes
Experience coaching in an off-ice or specialized training facility environment.
Familiarity with video analysis software (e.g., Coach’s Eye, Hudl) and electronic training tracking systems.
High energy, positive attitude, and a genuine passion for teaching the game of hockey.
Job Type & Compensation
Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time positions available.
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate or base salary, commensurate with playing and coaching experience. Performance-based incentives for client retention and package renewals may apply.
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
