Head – Rubber Technologist
Job Description
(Rubber Compounding | Specialty Elastomers | Molded & Bonded Rubber Products)
Revata Engineering Pvt. Ltd. | Pune, Maharashtra | On-site | Full-time
Company Description:
Established in 2009, Revata Engineering is a well-recognized manufacturer and supplier of engineered products and equipment for specialized industrial applications. The company operates from its head office and manufacturing facility in MIDC, Bhosari, Pune.
Revata focuses on high-performance elastomer solutions used in demanding environments where reliability, precision, and material performance are critical. The company serves industries such as Oil & Gas, energy, industrial equipment, and other sectors requiring engineered components for challenging applications.
Revata operates an API Spec Q1 and ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system, holds NORSOK M-710 qualified elastomer compounds, and maintains a NABL-accredited in-house testing laboratory, with in-house control from compound development and testing through to finished product manufacturing.
Role Description:
This is a full-time, on-site senior leadership position based at our Pune facility for Head – Rubber Technologist, reporting to the Managing Director.
The position carries overall responsibility for the company’s rubber technology function, covering rubber compound development, formulation standardization, mixing and molding process support, product validation, and new compound introduction. A key expectation of the role is developing the technical team: guiding and coaching the company’s engineers and chemists, and establishing documented standards and systems through which rubber technology knowledge is retained within the organization.
The role requires deep, hands-on expertise in rubber compounding, rubber processing, and molded rubber product development for components serving severe operating conditions involving high pressure, temperature extremes, aggressive media, rapid gas decompression, wear, and long service life. Familiarity with engineering plastics (PTFE, PEEK) and polyurethane, which the company processes alongside elastomers, is an added advantage; the core requirement of this position is depth in rubber technology.
The Head – Rubber Technologist will set the company’s rubber technology direction, ensure all compounds and products are validated to applicable international and customer standards, and maintain a compound development pipeline aligned with material, application, and regulatory trends.
Key Responsibilities:
Rubber Technology Leadership & Team Development
• Provide technical direction and final approval authority on all rubber compound and material decisions across the company
• Define and drive the rubber technology roadmap in line with business objectives
• Guide, coach, and develop compounding, process, testing, and application engineers, and build second-line technical leadership
• Establish documented compounding guidelines, formulation standards, and controlled technical records to strengthen organizational knowledge
• Review and approve material selections, compound designs, and development plans
Rubber Compound Development & Formulation Standardization
• Oversee the rubber compound portfolio across NBR, XNBR, HNBR, EPDM, FKM, FEPM (Aflas), FFKM, VMQ, and allied elastomer systems
• Rationalize and standardize formulations into a controlled set of base compounds with defined application limits
• Re-engineer existing formulations for raw material availability, batch-to-batch consistency, and cost, while maintaining qualification status
• Design compounds against defined service conditions through appropriate base elastomer, filler, and cure system selection
Mixing, Molding & Process Optimization
• Develop compounds for reliable processing, including scorch safety, flow behavior, cure characteristics, demolding, and bonding performance
• Optimize cure systems and cycle times, and reduce rejection and scrap in mixing and molding operations
• Provide technical support for compression, transfer, and injection molding, rubber-to-metal bonding, and finishing operations
• Lead failure analysis and root-cause resolution of compound, process, and field performance issues
Validation, Qualification & Testing
• Define validation and test protocols appropriate to each application, including thermal ageing, chemical compatibility, compression set, low-temperature performance, rapid gas decompression, and sour-service exposure
• Plan and execute compound and product qualification to NORSOK M-710 / ISO 23936, API 6A, NACE TM0187 / TM0296, and customer-specific requirements
• Strengthen the in-house NABL (ISO/IEC 17025) laboratory in test methods, data integrity, and correlation of laboratory results with field performance
• Ensure complete development documentation and traceability in line with API Spec Q1 and ISO 9001 requirements
Innovation & New Compound Development
• Develop and manage the new compound and product pipeline across specialty elastomers, including HNBR, FKM, FEPM, FFKM, and reinforced or bonded elastomer systems
• Monitor global elastomer, application, and regulatory developments, including those affecting fluoroelastomer materials, and plan the company’s response
• Develop suppliers of specialty elastomers and critical raw materials, including co-development programs where required
• Extend material guidance to the company’s engineering plastics (PTFE, PEEK) and polyurethane product lines where required
• Provide technical support to Sales and customers on material selection, application engineering, troubleshooting, and value engineering
PREFERRED BACKGROUND / SKILLSET:
• Strong hands-on expertise in rubber compounding and molded rubber product development, gained in non-tyre environments such as seals and sealing systems, precision molded rubber components, rubber-to-metal bonded parts, anti-vibration products, or similar engineered rubber goods
• Direct working experience with specialty elastomers including HNBR, FKM, FEPM (Aflas), and FFKM; exposure to ACM/AEM, VMQ, and XNBR is an advantage
• Experience in developing rubber products for severe service conditions in Oil & Gas, energy, fluid handling, chemical processing, or comparable demanding applications
• Demonstrated execution of qualification programs to international standards such as NORSOK / ISO 23936, API, NACE, or equivalent OEM specifications
• Familiarity with laboratory management under ISO/IEC 17025 / NABL requirements
• Working familiarity with engineering plastics (PTFE, PEEK) and polyurethane systems used alongside elastomers is an added advantage
• Proven experience in coaching and developing technical teams and building organizational capability
Note: This position requires deep, hands-on experience in rubber compounding and molded rubber products. It is not suited to candidates from general materials science, plastics-only, or academic research backgrounds, nor to those whose experience is primarily in tyre or conveyor belt manufacturing, unless complemented by substantial experience in non-tyre molded rubber products.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• M.Tech or Ph.D. in Rubber Technology, or in Polymer Science with clear specialization in rubber and elastomers (B.Tech with exceptional compounding experience may be considered)
• 20+ years of experience in rubber compound development, molded rubber product engineering, and manufacturing support, predominantly outside the tyre industry
• 10+ years in a senior rubber technology leadership role such as Chief Rubber Technologist, Head of R&D, Technical Director, or equivalent
• Hands-on experience across formulation development, mixing and molding trials, validation, and commercialization of rubber products
• Demonstrated experience in formulation standardization, compound portfolio rationalization, or cost re-engineering
• Proven ability to develop technical teams and engage effectively with customers, auditors, certification bodies, and academic partners
