We are a Series A Tech enabled B2B startup, backed by marquee inventors across the globe. We are on the lookout for key product and Tech talents, based out of Chennai, India.
About the role
Head of Engineering is a high impact role at Vigo Retail, where the incumbent has to be a seasoned technical manager, with 12+ years of experience, with at least 8 years in eCommerce based companies. As a Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for strategic decisions on Product and Technology, from deciding on technology stack trading off long and short term goals of the company, to building a cutting edge, highly scalable and reliable platform for our users, to growing and mentoring the Engineering team across India and Vietnam.
Skill sets and Personal Traits
Ideal candidate for the position will have following skills sets and personality traits -
• Technological skills - We use Magento, GoLang & React (JS & Native), Java, Python, My SQL tech stack for our applications, but constantly upgrading our technology stacks to meet our growth. We will be technology agnostic in culture, and looking for someone strong in fundamentals of Engineering and can decide the right technology and take architectural decisions for building highly scalable, reliable and high traffic web applications.
• Leadership skills - You will be leading and managing a team of Engineers across India and Vietnam, and take strategic decisions on Technology and Product. In this role, you will liaise with Business and Operation teams, Product and UI/UI design team and be responsible for setting up the vision and direction for Engineering teams.
• Entrepreneurial: You will be a self starter, and identify opportunities for growing and constantly optimizing our technology to better serve our end users and internal users. Optimizing our applications for performance and scalability, Automation of Operations and Finance workflows using AI/ML models, Supporting business to test and experiment new growth ideas using a MVP are some of the few things you plan and execute everyday.
• Customer first mindset: Customers (Retailers, Distributors and Suppliers) are at the forefront of all our decisions and being a leader in technology, you will be constantly trading off many factors based on this principle.
• Disagree but commit: As a startup, we will be challenging the status quo and so we will constantly experiment new ideas. Some of them will succeed, some may fail and we should be aligning on a principle that we will support other teams as long as it's meaningful and measurable though we may disagree with some of the ideas.
• Strong in Planning, Negotiation and Communication: As a Technology leader, you will be working closely with the CTO, Product Team and other leaders of the company, and you will be proactive in planning and execution of the Product Roadmap. Negotiation and Communication are key to success in this role, as you will be trading off a lot of factors to uphold other key principles.
Minimum qualifications:
• Good academic record - B.E/ B.Tech / M.E / M.Tech from leading Institutions
• 12+ years of experience in eCommerce, Supply chain and Logistic domains. Retail domain will be a huge advantage.
• Technical leadership in design, implementation and support of core database services that are highly reliable, flexible, and scalable.
• Extremely strong technical background with the capability of being hands-on if required and earning the respect and ability to mentor top individual technical talent.
• Good experience of working with globally distributed teams in a collaborative and productive manner.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, good with people, ability to negotiate.
