Grant Writer Needed-Nonprofit Youth Services (Phased Short Term Contract)
Job Description
Street Lights Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Los Angeles. We operate the LA Streetlights iOS app, which connects homeless, system-impacted, and runaway youth to community resources across Southern California. We are in early-stage growth and looking for targeted grant support to build momentum.
Project Structure
This engagement is broken into two phases. You will be paid at the conclusion of each phase before moving forward.
Phase 1 – Research (3 to 5 hours)
Identify 5 to 10 viable grant opportunities aligned with our mission. Priority sources include:
• LA County Department of Youth Development (DYD)
• Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA)
• Justice Care and Opportunities Department (JCOD)
• City and county youth-focused RFPs
• State and federal grants targeting youth homelessness, foster care, juvenile justice, and technology access
• Private foundations with a Southern California or youth services focus
Deliverable: A prioritized list with deadlines, eligibility notes, and your recommended approach for each.
Phase 2 – Writing (by mutual agreement)
Based on Phase 1 findings, write one to two grant applications or letters of inquiry. Scope and timeline confirmed before work begins.
Ideal Candidate
• Proven experience writing grants for youth-serving nonprofits
• Familiarity with LA County and City funding cycles and portals
• Experience with SAMHSA, OJJDP, or similar federal youth funding is a plus
• Able to work independently with minimal oversight
Budget
This is a founder-funded startup nonprofit. Please submit your hourly rate. Phase 1 will not exceed 5 billable hours without prior approval.
