Job Description
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Golang Backend Developer who is highly proficient in Go and capable of independently handling the majority of ZEX's backend development.
You will work closely with the CTO, AI/ML team, Android team, DevOps team, and product team to design, build, secure, and scale backend services powering the ZEX ecosystem.
This is a high-ownership role. We are looking for someone who can not only write code but also make sound architectural decisions, identify backend bottlenecks, design scalable systems, review code, and take responsibility for backend delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Backend Development
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Golang.
- Build RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs for ZEX mobile applications and internal systems.
- Develop highly reliable microservices and backend modules.
- Implement authentication, authorization, user management, subscription, device management, threat intelligence, and security-related services.
- Build APIs for communication between the ZEX Android application, AI engines, threat intelligence systems, and backend infrastructure.
- Integrate third-party cybersecurity, identity, payment, insurance, notification, and other APIs.
- Develop secure and efficient data-processing pipelines.
Backend Architecture
- Take ownership of the overall backend architecture.
- Design scalable and fault-tolerant microservices.
- Define service boundaries, API contracts, data models, and communication patterns.
- Make appropriate decisions regarding synchronous and asynchronous processing.
- Design systems capable of supporting millions of users and high-volume security events.
- Continuously improve backend performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Database & Data Layer
- Work extensively with PostgreSQL and other databases where appropriate.
- Design efficient schemas, indexes, queries, and data-access layers.
- Use Redis for caching, sessions, queues, rate limiting, and other appropriate use cases.
- Work with object storage such as Amazon S3 where required.
- Understand database optimization, replication, backup, and scalability concepts.
Cybersecurity
Because ZEX is a cybersecurity product, security must be a first-class consideration in backend development.
You will be expected to:
- Follow secure coding practices.
- Implement strong authentication and authorization mechanisms.
- Protect APIs against common attacks.
- Implement rate limiting, validation, logging, and abuse prevention.
- Secure sensitive user and device information.
- Understand concepts such as JWT/OAuth, encryption, TLS, API security, secrets management, OWASP Top 10, and secure data handling.
- Work with the security team to identify and resolve backend vulnerabilities.
AI & Python Integration
You do not need to be an AI/ML specialist, but you should have working knowledge of Python and understand how backend systems interact with AI services.
You may work with:
- Python-based AI/ML services.
- AI inference APIs.
- LLM and machine-learning services.
- Speech/text processing services.
- Threat detection engines.
- RAG and threat-intelligence systems.
- Communication between Go services and Python AI services.
Kotlin / Android Integration
Basic to intermediate knowledge of Kotlin/Android development is preferred.
You should be comfortable understanding:
- Android application architecture.
- API consumption from Android.
- Authentication/session flows.
- Mobile-to-backend communication.
- Push notifications.
- Device and security-related data flows.
You will primarily work on the backend, but this knowledge will help you collaborate effectively with the Android team.
DevOps & Deployment
You will work closely with the DevOps team and should understand:
- Docker and containerized applications.
- Kubernetes fundamentals.
- CI/CD pipelines.
- Linux.
- Cloud infrastructure such as AWS/Azure.
- Application monitoring and logging.
- Load balancing and horizontal scaling.
- Production troubleshooting.
You are not expected to replace the DevOps team, but you should be capable of understanding how your services are deployed and operate in production.
Required Technical Skills
Must Have
- Strong professional experience with Golang.
- Excellent understanding of Go concurrency, goroutines, channels, interfaces, error handling, and memory management.
- Experience building production-grade backend applications.
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs and/or GraphQL.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Redis.
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture.
- Experience with authentication and authorization.
- Experience with Git and collaborative development.
- Good understanding of Linux.
- Understanding of Docker and cloud-based deployment.
