Job Summary:
A Polishing Operator is required to ensure the safe, efficient operation, of a glass polishing machine. Responsible for operating upright polishing equipment which grinds and polishes the edge of glass. The glass arrives on carts and is loaded on the machine by hand or through the use of an overhead crane. Each side of the glass is polished to remove rough / sharp edges. Glass is then loaded on carts to be transported to the next step in fabrication. Polishing Operators should be able to work with great concentration and precision. They must be responsible and comply with all safety guidelines. A keen eye for detail and great mechanical aptitude are also essential.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Always operate a polishing machine and overhead crane in a safe manner.
Regularly use a tape measure to ensure that polished glass meets the stated specifications on tickets.
Knowledge of and follow preventative maintenance procedures such as cleaning and lubricating equipment.
Conducting Pre & Post shift machine inspections and cleaning.
Polish various sizes of glass in an efficient manner.
Ensure that glass is polished smoothly and within company quality standards.
Keep work area clean .
Required Skills/Abilities:
Glass knowledge is an asset
Must be able to do basic math
Highly punctual
Able to work as a functioning member of a team
Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Ability to work independently in a busy environment
Experience with routine maintenance operations
Basic computer skills
Education and Experience:
High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred
Machine operator experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
Will entail prolonged periods of walking & standing
Must be able to lift more than 50 lbs. on a regular basis
Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $19.50-$26.00 per hour
