Position: General Manager - Construction

Department: Construction / Projects

Location: Gurgaon

Reports To: CPO

Job Summary

The General Manager - Construction is responsible for leading and overseeing all construction operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The role involves strategic planning, project execution, resource management, contractor coordination, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Execution

- Lead planning, scheduling, and execution of construction projects.

- Ensure projects are completed within approved timelines and budgets.

- Monitor project progress and resolve operational issues.

- Implement construction methodologies and best practices.

2. Operations Management

- Oversee daily construction activities across multiple sites.

- Ensure optimal utilization of manpower, equipment, and materials.

- Establish and maintain construction processes and SOPs.

3. Team Leadership

- Manage project managers, site engineers, supervisors, and contractors.

- Develop high-performance project teams.

- Provide mentoring and performance evaluations.

4. Budget & Cost Control

- Prepare and monitor project budgets.

- Control costs through efficient planning and procurement.

- Review contractor bills, variations, and claims.

5. Vendor & Contractor Management

- Select, negotiate, and manage contractors and subcontractors.

- Ensure vendor compliance with contractual obligations.

- Monitor contractor performance and quality standards.

6. Quality & Safety Compliance

- Ensure compliance with construction quality standards and building codes.

- Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.

- Conduct regular site inspections and audits.

7. Stakeholder Coordination

- Coordinate with architects, consultants, government authorities, and clients.

- Provide regular project updates to senior management.

- Resolve project-related disputes and escalations.

8. Risk Management

- Identify potential project risks and implement mitigation plans.

- Ensure regulatory approvals and documentation are in place.

Qualifications

- B. Eng (Civil) (Master's preferred) or B. Tech

Experience

- 15-20 years of experience in construction/project management.

- Minimum 5-7 years in a leadership role managing large-scale construction projects.

- Experience in commercial, residential, or infrastructure projects preferred.

4. Cost Control & Commercial Oversight

- Monitor project budgets and ensure cost efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.

- Verify contractor RA bills, variations, and change orders.

- Work closely with procurement and contracts teams.

5. Quality Assurance & Compliance

- Ensure construction meets design specifications, quality standards, and approved drawings.

- Implement quality control systems and site inspections.

- Ensure compliance with local regulations and statutory requirements.

6. Safety Management

- Implement and enforce strict safety standards and HSE practices.

- Conduct safety audits and ensure compliance with construction safety regulations.

7. Planning & Reporting

- Track project progress using Primavera / MS Project or similar planning tools.

- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for senior management.

- Monitor critical path activities and implement corrective measures when needed.

Project Scope

- Approx. 1 million sq. ft. built-up area

- Multi-storey structure

- Civil, structural, faade, finishing, and MEP works

- Multiple contractors and consultants

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering

- Master's in Construction Management preferred

Experience

- 15+ years of total experience in construction

- Minimum 8-10 years managing large projects (500K-1M sq. ft.)

- Experience delivering large residential, commercial, or mixed-use developments
