General Manager - Canberra Centre
Job Description
About the Role
This is a true end-to-end Centre Management role — part strategist, part leader, part relationship builder.
As General Manager, you’ll take full accountability for the performance, presentation, safety and commercial success of Canberra Centre. You’ll lead a large (onsite) multidisciplinary team and work closely with leasing, development, marketing, operations and investment stakeholders. As the senior face of the asset, your relationship with retailers, government, and the broader community will be critical. It’s a hands-on role in a high-profile environment — perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic, people-centric culture and enjoys balancing commercial outcomes with exceptional customer and retailer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the overall performance of Canberra Centre across operations, financial outcomes, risk, safety and presentation
Inspire, guide and develop a large onsite team across operations, guest experience, marketing, property management and services
Build strong, authentic relationships with retailers to drive mutual business success
Own the P&L and deliver strong commercial outcomes
Ensure best practice compliance, WH&S and risk management standards
Act as the senior representative for external stakeholders including government, community groups and industry bodies
Partner closely with QIC’s head office, leasing, development and investment teams on strategic initiatives and future opportunities
Foster a high-performance, collaborative and customer focused culture on site
About You
You’re a confident, commercially astute leader who knows how to run a major retail asset.
You’re comfortable making decisions, lifting performance, handling complexity and building trust with a wide range of stakeholders. You combine strong financial acumen with a natural ability to connect with people, and you genuinely care about the places you lead.
Desired Criteria
Proven experience managing a large retail, mixed-use, airport or similarly complex asset
Strong financial acumen, including P&L analysis and budget management
Demonstrated leadership experience managing large, diverse teams and contractors
Ability to build strong retailer, stakeholder and community relationships
Confident communicator with executive presence
Open minded, collaborative and hands-on leadership style
Retail leasing knowledge and understanding of operational risk and compliance
Why You’ll Be Successful
You’ll succeed in this role because you:
Take ownership and lead from the front
Balance commercial performance with people and culture
Build trust quickly and communicate clearly
Stay calm, decisive and solutions focused in complex environments
Are motivated by excellence and proud to run a premium asset
Most importantly, you’ll thrive because you’re joining QIC — an organisation that invests for the long term, values strong leadership, and gives you the platform to make a genuine impact on one of Australia’s most significant retail destinations.
