Foot Care Nurse (Independent Contractor)

An independent contractor role performed under the guidance of the Foot Care Coordinator. The Foot Care Nurse provides professional, compassionate, and culturally safe foot care services to members of the Ansininew First Nations. This role involves the assessment, treatment, and education of clients with a focus on preventing foot complications, particularly for individuals with diabetes, mobility issues, or other chronic conditions.

Responsibilities

Provide nursing foot care including comprehensive assessments, nail and skin care, and treatment of corns and calluses
Monitor, assess, and support clients with high-risk conditions such as diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and neuropathy
Deliver foot care services in a variety of settings including clinics, client homes, hospitals and community locations
Educate clients on proper foot care, prevention strategies, and overall health promotion
Document all assessments, treatments, and outcomes in accordance with professional standards and organizational policies
Maintain strict infection prevention and control practices, ensuring a safe and clean environment
Collaborate with community health workers, physicians, diabetes educators, and other healthcare professionals to support holistic client care
Participate in community outreach, health promotion initiatives, and educational sessions tailored to community needs
Build respectful, trusting relationships with clients while incorporating and honoring First Nations cultural values, traditions, and practices
Demonstrate strong communication skills, professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical practice at all times
Work effectively both independently and as part of a team, showing accountability, dependability, and adaptability
Manage time efficiently, maintain punctuality, and respond effectively in high-stress or emergency situations when required
Skills

Current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN/BN) in good standing with the applicable regulatory body.
Foot Care Certification required.
Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience; community health experience preferred.
Completion of Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) Certification.
Strong clinical judgment with the ability to assess, prioritize, and respond to diverse client needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships with clients, families, and healthcare partners.
Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, confidentiality, and commitment to ethical nursing practice.
Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, values, and traditions; experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset.
Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and effective in high-pressure or emergency situations.
Willingness and ability to travel to remote communities as required.
Valid Manitoba driver's license.
Successful completion of Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Vulnerable Sector Check.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated nursing professional who is committed to clinical excellence, community-based care, health promotion, and building respectful relationships with clients and communities.

Pay: $28.82-$48.89 per hour
