Fitter/Welder – Overhead Crane Manufacturing & Installation
About the Role:
General Crane is looking for a skilled Fitter/Welder to join our manufacturing team. This role focuses on fitting, aligning, and preparing structural and mechanical components for overhead crane systems prior to welding and installation.This is a hands-on role requiring strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to read and interpret drawings.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Fit and assemble structural steel and mechanical components for overhead cranes
Interpret shop drawings and ensure components are aligned to specification
Measure, layout, and prepare materials for welding
Work closely with welders to ensure proper fit-up and tolerances
Assist with pre-assembly of crane components in the shop
Support installation team as required on-site
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Qualifications:
Experience as a fitter, fabricator, or structural steel worker
Ability to read and interpret shop drawings
Strong measuring and layout skills
Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
Comfortable working with steel, tools, and shop equipment
Forklift or overhead crane experience is an asset
