Permanent Full Time (Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30 pm with one hour lunch)


Position Summary

The Family and Community Support Services Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and delivery of all internal programs, services, and events, related to the FCSS Program and has an organizational role in hosting community events for the public.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates and/or delivers programs, events, and services that enhance the social well-being of residents, in compliance with the provincial FCSS mandate, regulations and local FCSS priorities.
Assists with the preparation and monitoring of the FCSS annual budget.
Prepares and submits FCSS annual reporting.
Assists in the development, implementation and review of FCSS policy and procedure development.
Evaluates community needs, provides recommendations, and coordinates the delivery of FCSS programs and social service priorities, including the evaluation of internal programs and services Evaluates community needs, provides recommendations and coordinates the delivery of community events.
Clerical/administrative support for the FCSS Advisory Committee, including acting as a resource, attending meetings, meeting agenda preparation, and taking minutes.
Represents the Municipality and acts as a resource on FCSS matters with local residents, agencies, and community groups. This may be extended to representation of local FCSS issues and concerns regionally and provincially.
Performs administrative and clerical tasks associated with performing job duties, including (but not limited to) preparing invoices, tracking and receiving payments, taking program registrations and bookings, and report preparation.
Provides back up for the Coordinator of Facilities and Special Events and Booking Coordinator for Sport and Recreation as required.
Acts as a liaison with community agencies, service providers, and outreach programs.
Provides information, guidance, referrals, and outreach support to residents accessing community services.
Coordinates the meals on wheels program.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Knowledge and experience in FCSS programs, services, and funding guidelines.
Ability to organize and coordinate programs and events.
Ability to identify community social needs and assist in developing programs and services that address those needs.
Knowledge of office administration practices and processes.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
Proficient in the operation of office equipment and computer software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively engage, support, and build meaningful connections with individuals from diverse backgrounds an across all age groups.
Understanding of grant funding processes, funding agreements, reporting requirements and financial accountability practices.
Demonstrated ability to organize and facilitate large -scale community events that promote that promote community participation that strengthen relationships and enhance the social well-being of residents.
Education and Experience

This position requires the following minimum qualifications:

A high school diploma supplemented with a two-year diploma in social work, human services or a related field.
Two years of related experience.
A valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license.
Independence and Scope of Impact

Decisions and problems are varied and require the incumbent to use some judgment and discretion within policy, codes, and/or legislation. Supervision can be consulted in cases where several options are available. The incumbent is expected to work within the parameters of the budget provided, policies, and procedures.

Decisions or actions could result in serious losses of time or resources or cause significant embarrassment within the organization and limited impact on public image.
Contacts

Internal – Regular contacts are maintained with the Manager of Community Services and the Meals on Wheels volunteers, which may involve scheduling and directing services. Occasional contact is had with other municipal departments, mostly with respect to sharing information and acquiring assistance with funding applications or resources.

External – Regular contacts are maintained with the general public, community groups, and volunteers involving the exchange of information for planning and delivering programs, services, and events.
Supervision Given

Schedules, and provides general direction to the Meals on Wheels or other programs that have a volunteer or staffing component.
Working Conditions

The work is performed in a typical office environment. The incumbent is required to sit for several hours during the day and involves frequent use (many times a day) of computers for up to an hour each time. The nature of the work demands that the incumbent be interrupted regularly by phone calls or customers.
