Position Summary
The Precast Facility Electrician & Overhead Crane Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and overhead crane equipment within a precast concrete manufacturing environment. This role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all electrical components and lifting systems to support production activities. This role requires a high level of electrical expertise, precision, and adherence to local codes and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in electrical systems, build a strong understanding of precast concrete production processes, and the ability to work independently, or as part of a team.
Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, overhead cranes, hoists and related equipment in compliance with local codes and safety standards.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues on production machinery, lighting systems and control panels.
Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems to minimize downtime.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Ensure proper grounding and safe operations of all electrical components.
Conduct regular safety checks and load testing as per regulatory requirements.
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on crane systems, including motors, drives, and control systems.
Replace worn or damaged parts and ensure proper lubrication and alignment.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
Maintain accurate records of electrical installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
Prepare reports on equipment performance, maintenance schedules, and repair needs.
Collaborate with supervisors and other team members to ensure effective communication and coordination.
Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in electrical systems and precast concrete production.
Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
Provide support and guidance to junior staff or contractors as needed.
Suggest and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, productivity, and safety.
Perform other duties as directed by supervisors or managers.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience
Journey Electrician Certification or equivalent.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Hands on experience with electrical systems and motor controls.
Knowledge of overhead crane systems, including electrical and mechanical components.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
Precast concrete or heavy manufacturing environment experience preferred.
Knowledge of PLC’s and automation systems.
Welding and fabrication skills an asset.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with safety regulations and lockout/tagout procedures.
Strong mechanical aptitude, communication, collaboration, and teamwork abilities.
Reliable attendance, punctuality, and flexibility with based on business needs.
Attention to detail and commitment to quality of workmanship.
Work Conditions
Exposure to hazards associated with the industry/trade.
Extended periods of standing, climbing ladders and other physically demanding conditions.
Regular exposure to conditions includes heat, humidity, and dust.
Use of required personal protective equipment.
Flexible hours, rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Overtime, on call, and travel as required.
Work indoors/outdoors.
May on occasion be exposed to heat, rotating equipment, noise, loud sounds and distracting noise levels from office equipment.
