Work for an Agency where you will enjoy a socially diverse and inclusive culture
$120,530 - $131,+1+ (plus 15.4% superannuation)
Our participants, Our people, Our purpose
Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits
Are you looking for a job where you can use your communications and media skills to create real social impact? The NDIA Media Team is seeking a motivated and skilled EL1 Assistant Director.

We are looking for an exceptional communicator with high impact writing skills and the ability to translate complex information for easy understanding. You will have a passion for delivering best-practice communications, embodying inclusive NDIA values.

You will be creative and collaborative, thriving in a fast-paced environment to meet tight deadlines and taking initiative to craft creative solutions while demonstrating leadership skills through the supervision of staff. You will be confident at the helm and comfortable rolling up your sleeves alongside your colleagues.

The NDIA Media Branch engages with the community through media, social media, digital media and events to help participants, providers and the broader community to understand and navigate the NDIS. The Media Team sits within the Branch, working with key stakeholders including ministerial offices. The Media Team manages media relationships, responds to media enquiries and proactively promotes the success of the NDIS through announcements on Scheme reform, initiatives and outcomes, media spokespeople activity and individual stories of NDIS participants.

Where you can add value
As the EL1 Assistant Director Media, you will contribute towards a consistent, strategic media approach across the Agency. You will provide advice and solutions for complex media issues and guide team members to build skills and capacity.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Managing and responding to media enquiries and working within an after-hours rotational on-call media roster.
Collaborating with stakeholders to support NDIA announcements and media opportunities.
Writing media releases, pitches, speeches and briefing documents.
Working with ministerial offices and government agencies and departments.
Fostering creativity and innovation in all media-related activities.
Enough about us, let’s talk about you
You will have strong experience in media and/or communications, with relevant qualifications considered favourably. You will have demonstrated experience in managing multiple competing priorities, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

You will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills and an ability to translate technical material for general audiences. You will be experienced in dealing with media enquiries and engaging with journalists, producers and editors. You will have high-level presentation skills and the capacity to represent and negotiate on behalf of the Agency, across a range of forums.

In line with the values and mission of the NDIA, you will have a positive contemporary attitude to people with disability, along with understanding and knowledge of disability and its impact on individuals. This role will provide you with opportunities to make a real difference in the lives of people with a disability and contribute to the success of the NDIA for generations to come.

Your NDIA Experience
