Duration: 6 weeks

Compensation: $18/hour, 35 hours/week

Position Summary

The Editorial Content Intern will support the documentation and translation of key insights from The Bentway’s seasonal programming into structured content that informs future planning and design efforts. Learnings captured in this editorial content may be applicable to the Bentway’s own work as well as the broader sector, therefore materials produced may be for internal audiences or published publicly.

This role will report primarily to the Senior Manager of Planning & Design, but may report to other senior and executive-level staff as needed. Working with other Bentway team members and external support as required, the outcomes of this work may include public-facing documents, web-based & archival resources, as well as reporting on the intern’s workflow to ensure conducted processes may be repeated by the Bentway Conservancy and partners for future seasonal programs.

The intern will develop a structured process for gathering and presenting these insights, including but not limited to copywriting, copy-editing, and coordinating graphic design to create accessible and impactful documentation.

Responsibilities

Content Gathering & Research: assist in collecting qualitative and quantitative data from The Bentway’s seasonal programming through desktop research, on-site observations, and interviews with artists, collaborators, and participants
Copywriting and Editing: Draft, edit, and proofread written content for planned publications, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with organization’s voice and mission
Support Publication Design and Production: Collaborate with the Communications and Planning & Design teams to organize written content, liaise with consultants, and help shape the structure and flow of public-facing resources
Digital Archiving: Assist in consolidating and organizing information from projects and offline documents into the Bentway’s WordPress-based archive
Process Development: Contribute to the documentation of conducted processes, including creating guides, templates, and checklists that support future knowledge-sharing and reporting
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a background in communications, journalism, or English literature, with an interest in urban design and public space development. They should be skilled in synthesizing complex ideas into clear, engaging content and have experience with publication development, including copywriting, copy-editing, and coordinating graphic design.

Key skills include:

Strong research and analytical abilities, including desktop research, data collection, and expert interviews
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate insights into compelling narratives
Experience with publication workflows and editorial processes
Familiarity with digital content management, including WordPress for web content development
Organizational and project management skills to coordinate contributions from multiple stakeholders
Proficiency in relevant software and tools for writing, editing, and design documentation including Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office
An understanding of urban planning, architecture, or cultural programming is considered an asset, as is experience working with artists, designers, and community organizations
candidate should be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
