About the Role
PigRun Solutions is looking for a Senior Embedded Firmware & DSP Engineer to join our engineering team in Ottawa.
This is a hands-on senior engineering position for someone who enjoys building real products, solving difficult technical problems, and working in a fast-moving product-development environment.
You will be responsible for continuing the development and improvement of our existing products while also playing a key role in the development of new products.
Our engineering environment is dynamic. Priorities can move quickly as we respond to product requirements, field feedback, customer needs, testing results, and new development opportunities. We are looking for someone who can adapt, take ownership, and contribute wherever their technical experience is needed.
Your primary focus will be embedded firmware and digital signal processing (DSP), but your responsibilities will not be limited to those areas.
What You Will Work With
Our products combine embedded systems, sensing, signal processing, wireless communication, and remote tracking technologies.
You will work with technologies including:
STM32 microcontrollers
Nordic Semiconductor nRF devices
ESP32 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth/BLE devices
Cellular communication
Satellite communication
GNSS/GPS
Sensors and analog front-end electronics
Digital signal processing
Real-time embedded systems
C and C++
You will also gain significant exposure to remote tracking systems and pipeline inspection technology.
Responsibilities
As a senior member of the engineering team, you will:
Develop, maintain, optimize, and debug embedded firmware for existing products.
Design firmware architecture for new products and new product features.
Develop and improve DSP algorithms used for sensor and signal analysis.
Work with STM32, nRF, ESP32, cellular, satellite, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and related embedded technologies.
Investigate complex firmware, hardware, communication, and signal-processing problems.
Perform hands-on debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, multimeters, and other laboratory equipment.
Work directly with prototype and production electronics.
Perform soldering, board modifications, rework, and hardware-level troubleshooting when required.
Participate in product architecture and technical planning.
Review electrical schematics and provide input to hardware engineers.
Participate in PCB and system-level design reviews.
