Corporate Controller
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions;
Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results;
Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements;
Coordinating activities of external auditors;
Providing management with timely information vital to the decision-making process;
Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement to CFO and implementing new processes, as required;
Evaluating accounting and internal control systems, offering recommendations for improvement to CFO and updating controls, as required;
Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, offering recommendations for improvement to CFO and updating, as required;
Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance;
Hiring, training, overseeing, and retaining skilled accounting staff; and
Managing outsourced finance and accounting services.
Qualifications and Skills required:
10 years’ experience in Accounting Role and 3 years’ experience as Controller;
MBA in Finance or Accounting or CPA is required;
Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team;
Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the for-profit sector;
Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development;
Knowledge and/or experience with Nunavut and Northern Canada is an asset;
Proven ability to work with demanding deadlines, independently and with a team;
Excellent organization skills and strong attention to details;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment;
Strong work ethic, sense of responsibility and confidentiality;
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks, likely with competing priorities.
