Mo te tunga | About the role
As a Youth Justice Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing Family Group Conferences (FGCs) in accordance with the Oranga Tamariki Act 1+8+. You will work with tamariki and rangatahi, wh nau and the wider community to address the underlying causes which have led to the offending of tamariki and rangatahi. You will be able to incorporate a mana enhancing and restorative approach within your practice and utilise the combined knowledge of community resources, networks, and opportunities. The work you do will contribute to create an alternative offending-free future for tamariki and rangatahi.
This role may require you to travel to other areas in our region. You will need to be flexible with work and travel.
Ng pumanawatanga ou | What you will bring
To be considered for this role, you will need to be a dynamic, agile and fast paced coordinator who has a well-developed experience in front line delivery and the ability to build strong strategic relationships.
Additionally you will have:
Strong community youth networks with an ability to connect and build strong trusting relationships with tamariki, rangatahi, wh nau and Community
Strong facilitation skills with the ability to plan, identify appropriate supports and apply relevant FGC (family group conference) standards and practices throughout this process
The preferred candidate would benefit from having a general understanding of the Youth Justice pathway, or proven experience working with tamariki/youth aged between 14 to 18 years in a similar capacity
Ability to self-direct and manage own workload with clear communication - including strong report writing skills
Champion the principles of the Oranga Tamariki M ori Cultural Framework and have a good understanding of section 7(AA) of The Oranga Tamariki Act
Ability to uphold the principles of Te tiriti o Waitangi and demonstrating this in practice
A valid and clean New Zealand's drivers' licence
Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga M ori, and Pacific peoples' culture
Ability to work as part of a (Youth Justice Coordinator) team across the wider Greater Wellington region
