Purpose
The Coordinator Survey and Design is responsible for the leadership, management and
oversight of the daily functions of the Engineering Survey and Design Team. This role assists
the Unit Manager Engineering in the development and implementation of sustainable
engineering plans and designs that align with and support the City of Marion’s community
vision. In collaboration with key stakeholders, the role is key in ensuring that designs for
infrastructure, transport, traffic, and water projects are effectively planned, budgeted and
delivered.
The role provides high quality technical advice and support in relation to traffic controls,
road geometry, stormwater and other civil engineering projects. The role also undertakes
concept and detailed design, Bills of Quantities and cost estimates for engineering projects
as well as final design reviews prior to drawings being released for tender and/or
construction. Where necessary, the Coordinator Survey and Design will engage and manage
external design consultants to ensure designs are received in accordance with City of Marion
requirements.
The Coordinator Survey and Design assists the Unit Manager Engineering in mentoring and
developing design acumen and knowledge of construction methods to inform better design
outcomes for survey and design office staff. The role also represents City of Marion at
internal and external meetings and responds to customer and Elected Member enquiries
about design related matters.
Key Deliverables
Initiate, plan, manage and coordinate Council’s survey and design services.
Coordinate and develop design projects and programs within scope, budget, and
timeline, with minimal rework required, in collaboration with relevant delivery teams.
Prepare accurate and reliable cost estimations and project/program budgets.
Provide leadership, guidance and supervision to staff within the survey and design
team.
Support the development and implementation of Stormwater Management Plans.
Support Asset Management Planning processes and improvement plan initiatives.
Deliver comprehensive project documentation and reports.
Update and maintain Council’s standard drawings and technical specifications.
Provide high level technical advice on Design Standards, Guides and Technical Codes.
Engaging and supporting specialist design services/consultants for infrastructure
projects.
Provide effective leadership in a manner consistent with the CoM Leadership
Capabilities.

Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering (or similar technical field).

Proficient communication skills (Report Writing, Grant Applications, Public Speaking,
Conflict Resolution and Negotiation).
Proficient knowledge of project management principles.
Functional knowledge in CAD drafting software packages, OpenRoads civil design
software suite for roadway, drainage, and utility projects and Drains design package.
Functional knowledge of surveying principles and techniques.
Functional digital literacy (Office 365 Suite, GIS etc.).
Desirable criteria
Chartered Member of Engineers Australia.
Proficient customer service skills.

Functional knowledge of Local Government roles, functions and responsibilities.

Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,
with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa.
