Job Description

Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Some people like sitting behind a desk.

Others would rather be out building something that matters.

If you're the type of person who enjoys seeing the results of your hard work at the end of the day, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

We're searching for a Construction Operator to join our team in Invercargill, helping deliver a wide range of capital works, renewals and upgrades across the region's water, wastewater and storm water networks. From installing pipelines and repairing critical assets to operating machinery and supporting emergency response activities, no two days are quite the same.

One day you might be working alongside a crew installing new infrastructure that will serve the community for decades. The next, you could be operating plant, solving practical challenges on site or supporting planned works that keep essential services running smoothly.

This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in doing quality work and likes being part of a team that gets things done. You'll work alongside experienced operators, supervisors and engineers, contributing to projects that improve the reliability and resilience of essential networks across Southland.

We're looking for someone who brings a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to get stuck in. In return, you'll join a supportive team environment where your contribution is valued, your development is encouraged and the work you do has a genuine impact on the local community.

If you enjoy practical work, thrive outdoors and want to play a part in delivering critical infrastructure that people rely on every day, we'd love to hear from you.

Mōu koe | About You

You will bring:

Experience in civil construction, ideally within water, wastewater, storm water or pipeline projects
Confidence working with construction plant, equipment and machinery in a safe and productive manner
A current Class 1 driver licence, with Class 2 highly regarded
Excavator operating experience and WTR endorsements advantageous
The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a close-knit team
Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, can-do approach to challenges
Good communication skills and confidence completing job records, reports and electronic field documentation
A genuine commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and quality workmanship
The ability to build positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, stakeholders and members of the public
A proactive attitude and willingness to support after-hours callouts and emergency response activities when required
Traffic management experience or qualifications would be beneficial
You're someone who enjoys getting things done. You take pride in a job well done, look out for your teammates and aren't afraid to roll your sleeves up when the work demands it. Reliable, motivated and adaptable, you're the kind of person who helps create a positive culture both on site and within the wider team.
