Base31 is Prince Edward County’s newest cultural destination, set on a 70-acre historic former WWII air training base just outside of Picton, Ontario. Purchased in 2021 by PEC Community Partners, the site has undergone an ambitious transformation, restoring heritage buildings, reimagining the landscape, and creating dynamic public spaces filled with art, live music, and exciting food and drink experiences.
Since opening in 2022, Base31 has become a thriving hub of creativity and culture, drawing visitors from across the region and beyond. The site has hosted hundreds of events, from large-scale festivals and concerts to intimate performances by Canada’s top musicians. It has also introduced a bustling open-air food drink market, immersive art experiences, after-dark adventures, and interactive programming. Visitors can explore galleries, escape rooms, outdoor play spaces, children’s camps and arts programs, and curated group experiences, with culinary adventures and creative installations adding to its ever-evolving energy.
In 2025, a new exhibition hall will open, further celebrating the site's rich heritage and its impact on the local community, as well as on a national and global scale. Across Base31, visitors will have opportunities to engage with its history through guided tours, exhibitions, and interactive storytelling experiences that bring the past to life.
Looking ahead, Base31 will continue to evolve as a hub for creativity, heritage, food, and community, introducing fresh experiences and amenities that inspire play, discovery, relaxation, and connection, reflecting the distinct spirit of Prince Edward County. In the coming years, the surrounding area will also grow, with new rental and home ownership opportunities enhancing its vibrancy and appeal.

Salary: 52,650 – 58,500
OVERVIEW
This is a rare opportunity to join the founding team undertaking a revitalization of the Base31, a new 70-acre cultural tourism destination under development as part of a larger 700-acre site in Picton, Ontario. Construction Carpenters will support the adaptive re-use of 50+ heritage buildings on this former airbase. The successful candidate will thrive in a small but high-capacity team and be high-energy, friendly, and collaborative. Someone who is willing and able to think beyond the imagined borders. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
• Ability to teach and mentor apprentices through the Red Seal Carpenter program, providing guidance and support as they develop their skills.
• Demolition of existing walls, floors, ceilings, etc.
• Assist with design layouts, planning and installation in conformance to building codes.
• Use various hand, power tools, machines and other equipment to accomplish projects.
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.
• Build foundations, install floors beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems.
• Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moldings, and hardware.
• Supervise apprentices and other construction workers.
• Drywall and finishing experience an asset.
• Exterior decks, landings, siding, roofing, soffit fascia
• Must be comfortable working at heights and be willing to complete fall arrest training.
• Willing to work in inclement and all-weather conditions.
• Comply with building codes and health and safety regulations.
• Equipment maintenance
• Building and site maintenance as required
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 5+ years of recent, related experience as a Licensed Carpenter
• Valid Ontario’s Driver’s License preferred.
• Understanding of power and hand tools and all construction equipment
• Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively and effectively with colleagues and vendors.
• Demonstrated ability to function in a team environment as well as independently with responsibilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and/or within a team.
• Problem solving skills.
• Willingness to learn and bring talents to the projects.
• Health and Safety awareness certification/training
• Working at heights training [may be willing to train]
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods, climb, pull and lift heavy objects.
