We are looking for a motivated and community-focused Community Energy Adviser to join our three-year, community-led environmental sustainability project, Changemakers. This is an exciting opportunity to support residents and communities to take practical climate action, reduce energy costs, improve living conditions and strengthen local voices on climate issues.
Working alongside a Community Engagement Officer and under the direction of the Project Manager, you will provide impartial, you will help residents understand how to reduce energy use, lower bills, improve warmth, access support and make informed choices about low carbon living.
About the role
· Provide one-to-one energy and climate advice to residents, including support around fuel poverty, cold homes, bills, heating controls, damp and condensation, smart meters, tariffs and priority services.
· Support residents to access grants, schemes, referrals and wider services, including welfare, debt, housing, health, digital inclusion and specialist energy support.
· Plan and deliver community advice sessions, workshops, events and practical activities that raise awareness of energy efficiency, affordable warmth and everyday climate action.
· Work with volunteers, community groups and partner organisations to reach under-represented residents and build trust locally.
· Identify, train and support Climate and Energy Champions to encourage local action and community leadership.
About you
· You will have experience of providing energy efficiency, fuel poverty, affordable warmth, advice, outreach or community support.
· You will be a confident communicator who can engage, motivate and support people from a wide range of backgrounds.
· You will be organised, flexible and able to work independently, as part of a project team and in partnership with others.
· You will have good IT skills and the ability to record advice, referrals and outcomes accurately.
· An energy advice qualification such as City & Guilds Energy Awareness Level 3, or willingness and ability to achieve this, would be an advantage.
This role will involve travel to community venues and partner locations across Rotherham and may include occasional evening or weekend work to meet community needs. An Enhanced DBS check may be required.
