There are over 40,000 Indigenous people in our Nation’s Capital, and Wabano serves over 15,000 of them every year. While Wabano’s core business is health care, we are the cultural hub for Indigenous people in the National Capital Region. For over 25 years, Wabano has offered cultural experiences, on-the-land family outings, seniors’ home support, and homeless outreach to a diverse and growing Indigenous community.
Wabano has five robust departments (clinic, mental health, housing, programs and community engagement), each creating and delivering unique activities every week. Wabano is now looking for a passionate communication professional to create PR content (social media, website and print) that is as exciting and innovative as the services Wabano is renowned for.
Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Director of Administration, Communications, and Engagement, the Communications Coordinator works alongside PR/Communications Consultants to develop and produce Wabano’s PR content, including social media updates, videos, and graphics, to engage audiences and support marketing goals.
Content creation: Develop written, visual, and video reel content for social media, websites, and email blasts.
Website coordination: Work with program staff to gather details, confirm information, and post accurate calendar events on the website, ensuring updates reflect current activities.
Strategy, planning and collaboration: Work with the management team and the PR/Communications consultant to ensure content aligns with organizational goals. Identify internal content priorities, gather program information, and review/edit consultant-created posts and graphics to ensure Wabano’s activities are accurately and effectively promoted.
Editing and quality control: Edit and proofread content to ensure high quality, consistency, and accuracy.
Digital best practices: Use clear, accessible writing and basic web content principles to help improve visibility and engagement across Wabano’s online platforms.
