Volunteer Role

Hybrid (St. John’s / Avalon Region)
Avalon Hospice is building Newfoundland and Labrador’s first community-based hospice for the Avalon region — a compassionate, holistic, and dignified model of end-of-life care grounded in our mission and bylaws. As we move from vision to implementation, we are seeking a Co-Chair to help lead this transformative initiative.

What You’ll Do
As Co-Chair, you will work closely with the Board Chair to:
Provide strategic leadership and governance oversight
Support operational planning and organizational development
Guide financial stewardship and risk management
Contribute to policy, legal, and regulatory compliance
Engage with community, government, and health-sector partners
Help build a strong, effective Board aligned with our mission
This is a volunteer position requiring approximately 5 hours per week, with a mix of in-person and virtual participation.
Who We’re Looking For
You are an experienced leader with:
Background in operations, finance, legal, or governance
Familiarity with the health or medical sector in Newfoundland and Labrador
Ability to work collaboratively within a developing Board structure
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Residency in St. John’s or the Avalon region
Commitment to the mission and values of Avalon Hospice
Prior Board experience is an asset.
