Job Overview

We are seeking a well-motivated and forward thinking Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist to join our General Surgical/Critical care team.

The successful individual will help contribute to an already successful team in promoting best possible care in line with our Trust values.

The post holder will be required to work their hours over a seven day pattern.

Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will
• Play a leading role in the advanced assessment, clinical diagnosis, and treatment of patients in critical care and general surgical ward.
• They will provide clinical leadership in the supervision and teaching of physiotherapists and students within the specialty.
• Work closely with the surgical team lead to promote a proactive approach to physiotherapy within the surgical division.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
• Take a leading role in the advanced assessment, clinical diagnosis, and treatment of patients within the clinical specialty, including those with complex and/or chronic conditions in A&E and on the wards.
• Utilise highly specialised physiotherapy knowledge and skills to independently manage a complex caseload as an autonomous practitioner.
• Ensure a thorough in-service training programme is provided to all members of the team to maintain clinical competency.
• Serve as a specialist resource for the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and physiotherapists within FHFT.
• Collaborate with the MDT to develop, monitor, and evaluate the specialist service, enhancing care pathways in alignment with national guidelines.
• Lead relevant research and audit initiatives within the specific clinical area.
• Support the Band 7 Team Lead within the specialty and deputise for them as needed.
• Act as the physiotherapy coordinator and key liaison for the clinical specialty, ensuring the effective overall management of patients.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
• worked as band 6 in ITU in NHS
• experience of managing staff and students in critical care
• evidence of service improvement within critical care

Desirable criteria
• worked as band 7 in ITU in NHS

Knowledge

Essential criteria
• evidence of post grad learning at masters level in relevant topic

Desirable criteria
• achieved MSc in critical care topic

Skills

Essential criteria
• to be on call competent
