Job Description

Civil Earthworks Estimator - Roading & Drainage Projects

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Civil Earthworks Estimator to join our civil construction team in Hamilton. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for large earthworks, roading, drainage, and associated civil infrastructure projects.

This role requires strong technical knowledge of civil construction methodologies, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to assess project risks and opportunities to ensure profitable project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Tendering

· Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.

· Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil earthworks, roading, drainage, and utility projects.

· Quantify materials, labour, plant, subcontractor, and overhead costs.

· Conduct quantity take-offs using estimating software and civil engineering drawings.

· Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.

· Develop pricing schedules, tender submissions, and supporting documentation.

· Identify potential project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions.

· Maintain estimating databases, cost histories, and benchmarking information.

· Assess construction methodologies and resource requirements.

· Develop preliminary construction programmes and project budgets.

· Participate in pre-tender site inspections and client meetings.

· Review geotechnical reports, utility information, and ground conditions.

· Analyze productivity rates and construction outputs to ensure realistic pricing.

· Liaise with project managers, engineers, clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.

· Provide handover information to project delivery teams upon successful award.

· Prepare tender reports and commercial assessments.

Skills & Experience

Essential

Minimum 3-5 years' experience in estimating within civil construction, earthworks, roading, or drainage projects.
Qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
Experience working on site as well as in the office.
Strong understanding of civil construction methods, specifications, and contracts.
Experience preparing detailed tenders ranging for large earthworks projects (100K+ cubes).
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and technical specifications.
Proficiency in estimating and take-off software.
Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
