Chef – Chinese (Cantonese) Home-Style Meals, Elizabeth Knox – Epsom
Job Description
We are looking for a skilled and passionate qualified Chef who understands how to prepare comforting home-style Chinese meals, with a focus on Cantonese style dishes, for older Chinese residents at Elizabeth Knox Home & Hospital.
This role would suit someone who takes pride in preparing familiar, nourishing meals that feel like home. What matters is practical cooking experience, a good understanding of Chinese/Cantonese home-style flavours, and versatility across a range of cuisines, including European-style dishes and special dietary meals.
What we offer:
Permanent, full-time role, 40 hours per week
Wednesday to Sunday roster: 9:30am – 6:00pm
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and present high-quality Cantonese and international meals
Deliver authentic, home-style Cantonese meals
Contribute to menu planning, including culturally appropriate dishes
Maintain food quality, consistency, and presentation standards
Ensure food safety and hygiene compliance
Work collaboratively within a team environment
Assist with special functions, themed meals, and dietary requirements
Example Cantonese dishes you may be required to prepare include:
Congee with pork & century egg
Braised beef brisket in bean sauce and turnip
Steamed egg custard with pork mince or seafood
Stir-fried noodles, fried rice with BBQ pork and shrimp
Braised pork belly in soy sauce
Sweet and sour fish
Common Cantonese-style soups such as sweet corn soup and Chicken/pork bone broths.
What you’ll bring:
Proven experience cooking authentic Cantonese home meals.
Strong understanding of traditional cooking techniques and flavours
Ability to prepare a wide variety of dishes from scratch
Flexibility to also support European and special dietary menus
A positive attitude with a strong team focus
Excellent food safety and hygiene practices
