Nestled in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD, InterContinental Hotel Brisbane will open to guests this winter, offering 321 spacious hotel rooms and suites, all day dining restaurant and lobby bar, outdoor pool, fitness centre and Club Lounge, all in a prime location above Queen Street Mall, perfect for exploring the city’s top attractions. With over 1800 square metres of meeting and events spaces, InterContinental Brisbane offers versatile function rooms and a Grand Ballroom catering for up to 1000 guests, making it a great choice for business and leisure events alike.

The moment a guest steps into our hotel, they walk into a genuinely memorable experience. To facilitate this, we’re now looking for a skilled Carpenter, to join our Engineering team, and play a crucial role in maintaining the property's rooms and facilities to ensure guest safety, comfort, and uninterrupted operations.

A little taste of your day-to-day

Building, installing, and repairing structures made of wood, plywood, and other materials. This includes walls, partitions, doors, furniture, and cabinetry.
Preparing surfaces for finishing by sanding, filling cracks or holes, and applying primers or sealers.
Applying finishes such as paint, stain, or varnish to wood surfaces to protect and enhance their appearance.
Installing fixtures like cabinets, shelves, doors, and windows, ensuring they are securely and correctly fitted.
Performing regular maintenance tasks to keep wooden structures and furniture in good condition, including tightening loose fittings and replacing worn-out parts.
Following safety protocols and ensuring all work complies with safety standards and regulations.
Working closely with other departments, such as Housekeeping, to coordinate activities and ensure minimal disruption to guests.
Occasionally interacting with guests to address any concerns or requests related to the appearance or functionality of their rooms or public areas.
Keeping track of carpentry supplies, tools, and equipment, and ensuring they are stored properly and replenished as needed.
Assisting in planning and executing larger renovation or redecoration projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
What we need from you

Previous experience in a similar role in a hotel setting preferred.
Excellent carpentry and joinery skills with a focus on fine detail.
Ability to work in high-traffic guest environments with minimal disruption.
Good understanding of luxury finishes and quality standards.
Problem-solving mindset and self-motivation.
Strong time management and organisational skills.
Basic computer or mobile device literacy (e.g., logging jobs in maintenance systems).
Cert III in carpentry or Joinery.
Construction Induction Card (White Card).
Fluent in the English language.
Impeccable grooming standards and good personal hygiene.
Full working rights in Australia without restrictions.
