Caretaker
Job Description
Macleans College, a distinguished co-educational secondary school is seeking a full-time experienced and dedicated Caretaker to join our team. This role will be responsible for everyday maintenance of the school campus to ensure that all caretaking services are carried out to the highest standard.
Position Overview
Be involved in security, property, maintenance, cleaning, heating, vehicle, Health and Safety and emergency procedures
Oversee “opening” and “lock-up” of all the school buildings
Liaise with the Property Manager on all property matters
Respond in a timely manner to requests for property maintenance and repair
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
Proven experience in a similar caretaking, facilities, or maintenance role
Good working knowledge of building maintenance, basic repairs, and facilities management
Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage time effectively
Good communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with staff, contractors, and suppliers
Basic computer literacy for maintenance scheduling and record-keeping
A valid driver’s license
Flexibility to respond to emergencies or after-hours needs
Trustworthy, reliable, and able to pass a police vetting process
Additionally, hands-on experience is essential, with the ability to assess situations and communicate effectively with the Property Manager to problem solve and find suitable solutions. The role reports directly to the school Property Manager.
