About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Psychologist to join our Oncology & Cancer team at Gisborne Hospital.

This role provides specialist psychological assessment, consultation and therapeutic interventions for people experiencing the challenges associated with cancer related distress. Working closely with patients, and multidisciplinary teams, you will support individuals throughout their healthcare journey by addressing the emotional, psychological, social and cultural impacts of diagnosis and treatment related issues.

As part of the Cancer Psychological and Social Support Service (CPSS), you will work collaboratively with Cancer Nurse Specialists, the Oncology & Cancer Social Worker, and regional partners to improve access to high-quality psychological support services across Tairāwhiti.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Medical Day Unit is a supportive and collaborative team focused on delivering high-quality care to people living with cancer and other complex health conditions. This role sits within a multidisciplinary environment where patient-centred care, equity and improved health outcomes are at the heart of everything we do.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

Registration with the Psychologists Board of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate

Experience providing psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions

Experience working with individuals and whānau experiencing complex psychological needs

Knowledge of Tikanga Māori and the ability to work effectively with Māori communities

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team

A current full driver's licence

Strong organisational, clinical and documentation skills

A commitment to equity, cultural safety and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.

Desirable attributes include experience in Cancer and Oncology services, Clinical Psychology experience, and experience working with families and whānau in health settings.
