SFE Engineering is a New York City–based engineering services firm providing technical support related to building operations, energy performance analysis, commissioning, and code compliance. Our work involves coordination with private and public stakeholders to address regulatory and operational requirements for buildings across the city. Due to increased project activity in the New York City area, we are adding technical staff to support ongoing field and building-related work.
Position Summary
We are seeking a practical and dependable Building Maintenance Technician to assist with routine repair and upkeep tasks in both commercial and residential properties. The work environment primarily includes below-grade spaces such as basements, equipment rooms, and parking structures.
This position involves general maintenance and repair activities and does not require professional licensing in plumbing, masonry, or related trades.
Primary Duties
Carry out minor plumbing-related work, including sealing penetrations, patching small leaks, drilling, and simple repairs
Perform concrete surface repairs in parking structures, including floor areas, columns, and wall surfaces
Support limited structural and surface restoration tasks as assigned
Safely operate common hand and power tools such as drills, grinders, and mixing equipment
Assist with general building repair and maintenance tasks as required
Keep work areas orderly and follow basic site cleanliness standards
Adhere to job-site safety procedures and direction provided by supervisors
Candidate Requirements
Previous experience in building maintenance, construction support, or general repair work is preferred
Familiarity with basic plumbing and concrete repair methods is expected
Prior work in garages, mechanical spaces, or basement environments is advantageous
Ability to perform physical work in active job-site conditions
Capable of working independently while following assigned instructions
Consistent attendance, punctuality, and attention to task quality are required
