Backend Developer- job post Canadian Aerial Services
Job Description
What we're looking for
A backend developer to take an existing product prototype and build out the real infrastructure behind it: a production database, real user accounts and role-based permissions, and a separate, properly secured admin console, deployed and ready for non-technical staff to use day to day.
The frontend design, UX will be provided. This role is backend only.
What you'd be doing
Standing up the production backend using Supabase (Postgres database, authentication, row-level security, file storage)
Designing and building a full relational database schema from a set of product requirements
Replacing prototype mock data and placeholder login with real, persistent functionality
Building a sign-up flow with role/permission tagging that routes new accounts to an approval queue, plus a separate paid account type with its own sign-up path
Building a separate, properly secured admin console, gated by role at the database level (not just hidden in the UI), for approvals, user/role management, content moderation, and support handling
Deploying and managing the project on Vercel, with a staging environment kept separate from production
Setting up the codebase on GitHub (private repo, proper environment variable/secrets handling — no API keys ever committed to code)
Implementing transactional email notifications (account approvals, reminders, ticket confirmations)
Working within an existing visual design and component structure rather than rebuilding it
Documenting the setup clearly enough that a non-technical team can manage day-to-day content and approvals without needing a developer for routine tasks
Requirements
Functional hands-on experience with Supabase (or a comparable Postgres + auth platform) including row-level security
Experience deploying and managing projects on Vercel
Working Node.js / modern JavaScript or TypeScript skills; comfortable with a framework like Next.js
Git/GitHub fluency, including proper secrets management practices
Experience designing a relational database schema from a set of product requirements
Ability to work from an existing, fully-specified prototype and match its structure and design system, rather than starting from a blank slate
Comfortable working alongside AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code) as part of a modern development workflow
Clear communicator who can explain technical trade-offs in plain language to a non-technical team
Knowledge of Canadian privacy compliance
