Job Description

Location: Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville

Company Description
NIKA LAW LLP is a specialized wills, trusts, and estates firm offering both solicitor-side and litigation services to provide comprehensive support to clients. The firm collaborates closely with clients’ financial, wealth planning, and tax professionals to create integrated, practical estate plans. Drawing on its litigation experience, NIKA LAW LLP anticipates and mitigates potential estate disputes before they arise. When conflicts do occur, the firm acts as a strong advocate and negotiator in and out of the courtroom.

Across all matters, NIKA LAW LLP is committed to ensuring clients feel heard, protected, and clearly advised as they navigate complex legal and family dynamics.

Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Associate Lawyer position in Toronto focused on wills, trusts, capacity law and estates.

Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, assessing their objectives and family dynamics, and collaborating with financial and tax professionals to design cohesive plans – drafting Wills, Trusts, Power of Attorney documents and estate plans.

The role also involves assisting with estate litigation files, including research, drafting pleadings and court materials, and supporting negotiations and settlements.

The Associate Lawyer will manage files under the supervision of the partners, maintain clear communication with clients, and contribute to firm initiatives that enhance client service and practice development.

Qualifications

Licensed to practice law in Canada, in good standing with the relevant provincial law society, with a minimum of 1 year experience in wills, trusts, and estates.

Demonstrated ability in legal research, analysis, and drafting of estate planning and litigation documents (e.g., wills, trusts, powers of attorney, pleadings, affidavits).

Strong client-facing skills, including clear communication, active listening, empathy, and the ability to manage sensitive and emotionally complex matters.

Effective collaboration skills, with the ability to work alongside financial, wealth management, and tax professionals to create integrated estate solutions.

Sound negotiation and advocacy abilities, with comfort appearing in court or participating in alternative dispute resolution processes.

Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail to handle multiple files and deadlines efficiently.

Prior experience in estate planning, estate administration, or estate litigation is an asset; familiarity with tax implications in estate matters is beneficial.

Commitment to professional ethics, continuous learning, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant statutes and case law.
