Associate Family Lawyer
Job Description
The successful candidate will have five years' experience as a lawyer in Alberta. This individual is looking to develop a career and life in a smaller centre in Alberta. In addition to strong experience as a family lawyer, experience with real estate, wills & estates and corporate law.
Some Of The Duties And Responsibilities
• Providing legal advice and representation to clients in family law matters
• Negotiating and mediating settlements and agreements with the other party or their lawyer
• Preparing and filing court documents and pleadings
• Appearing and advocating for clients in court hearings, trials, and appeals
• Conducting legal research and analysis on relevant laws, precedents, and facts
• Communicating and collaborating with other professionals, such as social workers, psychologists, and accountants
• Managing and maintaining client files and records
• Developing and maintaining professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and the community
Requirements
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
• A law degree (Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws) from an accredited law school
• A successful completion of the bar admission course and exam administered by the Law Society of Alberta
• A membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
• A minimum of one year of articling experience under the supervision of a qualified lawyer
• A demonstrated interest and competence in family law
• A strong knowledge of the Family Law Act, the Divorce Act, and other relevant legislation and case law
• A high level of oral and written communication skills
• A high level of analytical and problem-solving skills
• A high level of interpersonal and negotiation skills
• A high level of ethical and professional conduct
• A willingness to travel and work in rural and remote areas
